Using smart home integration for your air conditioning

Modern technology has made it easier to control our appliances, including any air conditioning you have installed in your home.

At Lee Jackson Air Conditioning, our commercial and domestic air conditioning systems span a fantastic range of brands, including Daikin, Fujitsu, Panasonic, Mitsubishi and Samsung

While we’d be happy to explain the features of each brand and make to you prior to installation, here is a general overview of the ways smart technology can be used to improve your air conditioning experience.

Smart thermostats

Most people are familiar with smart technology for their central heating (i.e. Hive or Nest systems). While some smart thermostats allow you to control your heating, some are also more sophisticated to also allow for integration with other systems such as cooling, dehumidifiers or ventilation systems.

Similar to being able to control your heating remotely, the ability to ensure your home is cool before you step through the front door can be invaluable. For those warm months especially, you can prevent temperatures from creeping up to an uncomfortable level.

Energy usage and savings

A huge benefit of smart technology is the data it can collect. In the case of air conditioning, this can include the ability to track your energy usage and overall costs.

Many systems also have energy-saving features enabled to help avoid wasteful operation. Combined with energy-saving heating, this can help lower your energy bills all year round.

Unusually high energy usage could also indicate that the air conditioning unit requires maintenance. Therefore, the information can also be a good indicator of how your air conditioning is performing to help promote better energy efficiency over the longer term.

Temperature automation

Similar to central heating, air conditioning can also be programmed to activate when the environment reaches a certain temperature. In the case of air conditioning, this would be when the space gets too warm.

Likewise, if the environment reaches a cool temperature, then the air conditioning unit can also be set to switch off to prevent the area from becoming too cold.

With so many temperature settings to explore, you really can customise the units to provide exactly what you need to achieve thermal comfort.

Enhanced troubleshooting

What we know about smart technology is that it allows us to speak to the device and also for the device to speak to us. There are endless ways this automated communication can be useful, including when it comes to the speedy diagnosis and ultimate repair of the unit itself.

Many of the more advanced air conditioning units can generate an error code, which can describe anything from a refrigerant leak to a voltage abnormality. Whatever the issue happens to be, fault codes make it much easier for the technician to refer to the guidance and repair the unit compared with having to manually inspect each part to work out where the problem is.

Overall, this can lead to far less downtime so that your home can maintain an ideal temperature.
